2010 Film Round-Up

2010 Films

January (2nd, 10th, 20th & 27th)

Sherlock Holmes ~~~

Entertaining, beautifully filmed & engaging re-imagining. Downey Jr & Law brilliant.

Day Breakers ~~

Passable, exciting vampire flick.

Up in the Air ~~

Charming & funny. A little predictable. Good cast. Quite fun.

Book of Eli ~~~

Interesting & novel thriller/journey movie. Excellent twist/non-twist for the smart!

February (10th)

The Wolfman ~

Dire.

March (3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th)

The Crazies ~~

Fun re-make. The Crazies are in town.

Green Zone ~~~

Slightly ropey but solid WMD thriller. Bourne at war. Hello to Jason Isaacs. And ‘tash.

I Love You Philip Morris ~~

Interesting if slightly bonkers comedy-drama. Bit too OTT. Carey good, McGregor bad.

A Single Man ~~~~

Wonderful, touching, beautiful Colin Firth drama. Darkly comic yet heartbreakingly human.

April (1st, 13th & 28th)

Shutter Island ~~~~

Excellent Scorsese flick. DiCaprio & Ruffalo are brilliant. Old school magic thriller.

Kick Ass ~~~

Fun, ass-kicking joy. Good script, nice story, well acted.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ~~~~

Excellent thriller. Great lead. About time women had a great anti-heroine on screen.

May (19th & 26th)

Robin Hood ~

Despite Crowe & Blanchett starring, just rubbish.

Four Lions ~~~~

Engaging, fun, dark. Best of British. A must see. ‘Rubber dingy rapids’, anyone?

June (2nd)

4.3.2.1. ~~

Good attempt at a ‘yoof’ thriller/drama. Engaging but flawed. Good female roles.

July (7th, 18th & 21st)

Get Him to the Greek ~~

Vomit jokes always work for me. Just enough to keep me engaged. Silly but fun.

Inception ~~~~

Excellent action/thriller. Is it as mind-bending as advertised? Nolan rocks!

Predators ~

Dumb-ass re-imagining of the old Predator chestnut. Silly. Blood & bombs. Yey!

August (11th & 25th)

Toy Story 3D ~~

Sappy, nostalgic cash-in. Sloppy story but good animation. 3D unnecessary.

Piranha 3D ~~

Fun but pedestrian comedy/horror. Too many boobs.

September (8th, 15th & 29th)

Scott Pilgrim ~~~

Fun & beautiful if a little baggy. Nice world if you like the ‘indie’ way of life.

Resident Evil 3D ~~

Daft but passable action/horror. Series 4th & better than RE3, not as good as 1 or 2.

Buried ~~~

Interesting premise. Well executed. Man in a box. Ryan Reynolds does a good job.

October (6th & 27th)

Made in Dagenham ~~~~

Excellent, must-see for EVERYONE! Brilliant story & historically important.

Social Network ~~~

Slightly over-rated but interesting story of how Facebook got started. Lonely boys get drunk & do things...

November (10th, 17th & 24th)

Due Date ~~

Passable ‘Planes, Trains & Automobiles’-lite.

The Kids are All Right ~~~~

Very entertaining and engaging family comedy-drama. Excellent cast.

London Boulevard ~~

Gangsteresque drama. Classily executed, unlike how some of the characters are dispatched!

December (1st & 15th)

The American ~~~

Extremely slow paced but interesting man-on-the-run drama. Rather baggy modern western.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 ~~~~

Best yet.
